Assignment #1:
Response to Intervention (RTI) is an instructional approach that serves two purposes: It provides early intervening services to struggling students to improve their skills. It's also an option that can be used to identify students who have learning disabilities.
It's basically a framework for implementing proactive data-drive decision making. It provides teachers with better, more timely information about students in order to improve student learning and performance.
I wonder though if it's a better assessment method that formally assessing students reading abilities?

good summery Faigy! I agree with you it does sound like a better assessment method
ReplyDeleteFantasitc Job! You explained it so clearly and concisely. I would answer your question by saying that sometimes, teachers may have more than one assessment method. Why cant both be used?
ReplyDeleteI agree with Rachel, teachers should have more than one method of assessment. Informal Assessments are great, especially when they provide a clear picture of the students level of performance.
ReplyDeleteNice Presentation Faigy!
ReplyDeleteYou provided nice examples of Reading Interventions, and yes it is important to use each intervention in the correct way!
nice summary of RTI. I think they are both good assessment methods every situation requires a different kind of assessment. Therefore, depending on the whole picture a correct assessment method can be chosen.
ReplyDeleteGreat Job Faigy! You clearly and concisely explained RTI and I like your thoughtful question at the end!
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing how to correctly assess young ELL students. You mentioned that families play an important part in assessment process and that they should be closely involved. I was wondering could you provide examples of ways they can assist with assessing.
ReplyDeleteWhen families are involved in the students progress, and keep track of where the student is holding, the student feels more secured and will advance faster. For example, when the child comes home with homework, someone in the family can offer to help him/her review it when he/she is done, to ensure the work was done correctly.
DeleteFaigy, your question is a good one.. in my opinion RTI is a lot more effective than formal assessments because it allows students to receive evidence based instruction and intervention
