Week #2

Assignments #3:

Through skimming through the readingrockets.org website, and watching some videos, I learned lots of new information. Firstly, children who have an awareness of print understand that the squiggly lines on a page represent spoken language. They understand that print is organized in a particular way-for example, knowing that print is read from left to right and top to bottom. Secondly, I've learned about the importance of fluency. Because fluent readers do not have to concentrate on decoding the words, they can focus their attention on what the text means. They can read and comprehend at the same time. Lastly, Spelling is a vital component of advanced readers. Good spellers are taught to be good, they're not born that way! And every student can become that good speller! Good spellers are usually better readers and writers than those that are bad spellers.

  1. Thanks for sharing, I always told my students parents to push their children to read every night. Building their reading fluency which will assist with their comprehension.
